The Clock Tower is one of the older features of Hogwarts Castle. Within the tower, lies the mechanism that run the antique clock. There is an old courtyard at its base, and at the top is the clear glass dial of the clock. There is space between the clocks movement and the dial for a person to either repair the clock or to stand and look out over the courtyard. There are five bells in the clock tower of various sizes, these bells appear to be made of copper as the bells are rather oxidized. The Clock Tower chimes every half hour and strikes a small bell at the beginning and conclusion of class sessions. What powers the clocks mechanism is currently unknown, but it is presumed to be weight driven.

Aerea had come all the way from the West Tower Owlery to the Clock Tower, desiring solitude. He felt a little bad for avoiding Professor Chapelle the way he did, perhaps just a slight touch, but not bad enough to leave now that he was seated near the glass and among the gear works of the great clock itself, alone. For once. Since coming here, his mind had been plagued with his summer spent back home. But more than that, he was perfectly destroyed by the thought of having to admit to his brother all that had happened during that time. It was enough to crush his poor heart. He held his hands out on front of him, and found them to be shaking. He sucked in air through his teeth in a soft hiss, clenching his hands into fists, digging his nails into his skin till he felt blood. But it was nothing. The bruises along the side of his face were nothing. The pain in his chest was nothing. It's all nothing to me... he told himself. He wrapped his arms around his legs, drawing his knees against his chest, and he huddled there quietly, eyes closed to the world.

Zel had come to the place fuming. "Filthy blood traitors..." She murmured underneath her breath as she rolled her eyes at the thought of the Gryffindor girls earlier. If only she could hit their head with a Bludger. Lucky for them she wasn't strong enough. Shuffling around aimlessly, she had come here with the intention to calm down a bit when she caught sight of Aerea. "Oh, sorry I didn't see you there at first, Aerea." Zel called out to the fellow Slytherin as she approached him. The way he was acting made her felt slightly concerned; she always knew that some would bother him due to his weak built and his background. "Did something happen?" Her voice softened as she sat down beside him. "You know, you can always talk to me about it if you want. You don't have to take on the burden alone; I'm always here to help if you ask."

Hearing a voice break through the sound of the gears and the thoughts in his mind, he lifted his head and looked up to see Zel. Quickly, he ducked his head back down, hiding his face again. "It's nothing, I'm fine," he insisted, drawing himself in closer as he pressed back against the wall. Zel was probably the kindest person he knew, but he hated to burden her with things. It felt like cruel and unusual punishment. She had enough to deal with as it was, and he felt the last thing she needed was someone else's burdens to be laid on her shoulders.

"Alright then." Zel nodded as she moved a bit closer. If he didn't want to tell her anything, then she wouldn't press him to. Everyone had there own things that they kept to themselves after all. A brief thought flashed through her mind, but when she tried to catch the thought it vanished, leaving nothing but a slight aching pain behind. She frowned a bit, but quickly tossed it to the back of her head. It was probably nothing important, she figured. "How has classes been for you?" She asked as she tilted her head towards him. "It feels like we haven't talked in so long."

Aerea sighed softly. "I know," he said. It certainly felt like a long time to him too. He was terrible at making friends, hence why he had none. But he was even worse at being friends once he got them. He always pushed them away, for fear of hurting them if they got too close. But Zel was careful in her persistence, and she had a stamina no one else really had to deal with his constant distancing. He felt even guiltier now as he realized the burden he must be putting on her. She was worrying about him, and he was treating her cruelly for it. He dropped his arms and lifted his head, leaning back against the wall with a defeated sigh. He now had a black and purple mark down the side of his face where he had been hit. "I'm sorry, Zel," he said quietly.

"What are you sorry for?" Zel asked as her eyes widened a bit, and a gentle smile quickly surfaced on her face. Any Gryffindor who saw her now would be surprised that she was capable of such a soft expression. "There's nothing to be sorry for; I'm just trying to be a good friend for you." She added as she placed her hand on top of his. She could be a nice person if she wanted, and she was indeed a nice person towards those in her own house. Well, some of them, at least. She had to admit that there were a few idiots that were in Slytherin. She felt the need protect those who were subjected to those idiots' stupidity. That was what she was for.

"You are a good friend to me," he said. "But i've been nothing but a terrible friend in return, and for that I am truly sorry." He wrapped his arms around his legs again, staring out the window. "Classes are alright," he said after a while. "I guess. They're much the same as the year before, though Defense Against the Dark Arts is said to be very promising this year. Which would be fun."

"No, don't be sorry. I think of you as a very good friend of mine, actually. You're much better than those who pretend to be friendly around me and backstab me when they get the chance. They think it makes them popular." Zel replied as she smiled out of disdain. "But you're right. I've heard things about it as well; I hope that it doesn't disappoint me like Herbology did. That was a terrible class." She scrunched her nose at the memory of the crazy Gryffindor professor. "I'm sure we'll manage just fine though, no matter the circumstances."

And then, will you think less of me if I backstab you? He could answer that question before it really came to mind. It was pretty straightforward after all. No sane person would like being betrayed. Aerea hated it himself, though he tolerated it quietly, bearing the brunt of those betrayals for years to follow and more to come. "We had better to get to class," he said, looking at the gears and turning things all about them.

"Aright. What class do you have next? I could walk with you if you want." Zel smiled as she stood up and brushed her robe off. Turning to him, her eyes glanced over briefly to see what he was looking at before extending her free hand to him. "Come on, let's go; As much as I dislike the professors, I wouldn't give those mudbloods and blood traitors a chance to laugh me down. We'll show them who's the best of our kind."

Aerea reached up and took her hand, not pulling too hard as he stood to his feet. Rubbing carefully at his injured face, he replied, "Um, I think we have choir next," he said, glancing at the clock to check. Sure enough, it was that time already.

“Well, time for us to shine.” Zel smiled in relief. Hopefully he wouldn’t be so down after class…if anyone dared to threaten him she’ll just have to beat them down for him. After class. Sneakily. To avoid punishment. As Slytherins always did.

Aerea led the way back down the spiraling clock tower steps. "We'd better hurry or we'll be late," he said." And that would mean less points for SLytherin. They'd get in trouble with their whole house if they did that.

"Of course." Zel chirped as she hurried down the stairs. "We can’t let the other brats beat us. Don’t worry. We’ll win the House Cup this year.” It was hard for her to motivate people, but she’d do it for a friend. Though Zel would probably be even happier to duel someone if that helped.
